Chimney Restoration has been wonderful to work with, they responded quickly to my requests for a chimney inspection and saved my newly purchased home from a horrific amount of damage caused by years of neglect from past homeowners. Chris was professional and courteous when working around my busy schedule and always made sure to communicate what was going on and provide me with documentation of the chimney and explain everything in great detail. They worked with us to create a plan of action that met our needs and budget. My husband and I are thrilled to have a company we feel we can trust to keep our chimney/fireplace safe and functional for years to come!

Very professional and on time. There bid was fair and knowledgeable and a quick turn around. We had tried another chimney place 20 years ago when we moved into our home and they had no clue how to fix the chimney and this company came in, did the inspection, gave us options, and we felt confident in our final choice. I would highly recommend.

We needed a complete tear down of our 130 year old chimney. CR of KC was one of 3 companies that quoted us. Chris was quick to respond, came out within a few days to quote us and walked us through everything. He didn’t try to up sell or recommend anything that wasn’t needed. We scheduled and he and his crew were on time and completed the job in one day. He sent me progress photos of the job throughout the day and the cleanup was phenomenal. I highly recommend Chimney Restoration of KC. I’m a real estate agent and they are now on my preferred vendor list.

Signs You Need to Call a Lenexa, KS Chimney Sweep

No matter if you use your fireplace to heat your Johnson County home on a regular basis or you only use the structure once in a while, properly maintaining your chimney is essential. The chimney is responsible for exhausting the smoke, soot, ash, excess heat, and all of the other byproducts that fire creates, and it also feeds the fire with the oxygen it needs to burn. In other words, the chimney is a vital component of your fireplace.

Each year, thousands of house fires in the United States are the direct result of poorly maintained chimneys; moreover, neglected chimneys can increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. When chimneys aren’t maintained, fires won’t burn as efficiently as they should, and therefore, they won’t generate as much heat. These are just some of the problems that can occur if you fail to maintain your chimney.

To protect your family and your Johnson County home, and to continue enjoying the wonderful, cost-effective warmth and ambiance that fireplaces provide, having your chimney professionally maintained is a must. But how do you know when you need chimney cleaning services? The following are telltale warning signs that it’s time to schedule an appointment with a Lenexa, KS chimney sweep.

Trouble Lighting Fires

Are you having a hard time getting your fires to start? If so, that’s a definite sign that you need to call a professional Lenexa, KS chimney sweep. As mentioned, a chimney feeds fires with the oxygen they need to burn, and if the structure is clogged or covered with a thick coating of creosote, getting fires to start will be a struggle.

Issues with Fires

If you can get fires to light but they aren’t burning properly – they seem to fizzle out after a short period of time or they aren’t as powerful as they usually are, for example – chances are your chimney is clogged or the flue is coated with a thick layer of debris. In either case, fires won’t receive the oxygen they need, and therefore, they won’t burn properly. An experienced Johnson County fireplace cleaning professional will be able to address the problem.

Unusual Odors

While some odor is expected when you burn a fire, it shouldn’t be overpowering. If your Johnson County home smells like a campfire or you notice any other unusual scent, you’re definitely going to want to get in touch with a Lenexa, KS chimney sweep. Those odors could be caused by creosote or clogs (twigs and leaves that may have fallen into the chimney or even animals that have taken up refuge in the structure) burning.

Excessive Smoke

Does your Johnson County house fill up with smoke when you light a fire? If so, check the flue to make sure that it’s opened. If the flue is opened, you need to call in a chimney cleaning specialist. When the structure is clogged or coated with a thick layer of creosote, airflow is restricted, and as a result, instead of exhausting out, the smoke that fires produce will pour back into your home.

Strange Sounds

If you’ve observed strange sounds coming out of your fireplace or through the walls that surround your chimney, contact a professional Lenexa, KS chimney sweep straight away. Those sounds could be the result of critters. Various types of animals, such as birds, raccoons, bats, mice, and squirrels, often seek refuge in chimneys. Animals nesting in your chimney can cause serious problems, as the nest and the animals can catch on fire, or the critters could travel down the chimney, out of your fireplace, and into your Johnson County home.

It’s Been a While Since You’ve Had Your Chimney Serviced

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), chimneys and fireplaces should be inspected and cleaned at least once a year. If it’s been longer than a year since you had the structure professionally serviced, you can’t remember the last time you had it serviced, or you’re positive you’ve never had it inspected and cleaned before, then you definitely need to schedule an appointment for a professional chimney and fireplace cleaning and inspection.

Lenexa is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, United States, and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 57,434. making it the 9th most populated city of Kansas. It is bordered by the cities of Shawnee to the north, Overland Park to the east, De Soto to the west and Olathe to the south.

Twelve years before the town of Lenexa was platted, James Butler Hickok staked a claim on 160 acres (65 ha) at what is now the corner of 83rd and Clare Road. Filed in 1857, the claim was not far from the Kansas River, and was 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Westport, Missouri, and the start of the Santa Fe Trail. The trail meandered through this area on its way to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

On March 22, 1858, Hickok was elected one of the first four constables of nearby Monticello Township. Later, Hickok became a scout for the Free-State Army, a sharpshooter and eventually, one of the most famous folk heroes of the American West, Wild Bill Hickok.

At about the same time as Hickok filed his claim, a census of the Shawnee Indians living in the area was being taken, and one of the residents listed was Na-Nex-Se Blackhoof. She was the widow of Chief Blackhoof, the second signer of the 1854 treaty that ceded 1,600,000 acres (650,000 ha) of the Kansas Shawnee Indian reservation to the United States government.
